Project Description

Demolition and Reconstruction

Located on the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) campus, the infamous ocean seawall which leads to Spring Point Ledge Light was destroyed by a storm that breached the wall, resulting in the need for its complete demolition and reconstruction. The project involved removing the existing granite blocks (some weighing more than a ton or more) and stacking them back into place. Doten’s used existing and imported granite and reinforced concrete to reconstruct the 550-foot-long granite block seawall.

Additional Improvements

As part of the reconstruction work, this project included making stormwater drainage improvements, planting, constructing beach access stairs, as well as the removal and repair of existing memorial benches and the installation of grass sod.
